THE STRIPPED CLUB

stripped.jpg

There's an old song that talks about coming back to the heart of worship. The beginning lyrics are 'When the music fades// all is stripped away// and I simply come.' The message of the song is simply this: When you strip everything else away; when there's nothing else left; when it's just you, is God still first in your life?
In Matthew 6:33 Jesus tells us to 'Seek the Kingdom of God above else...'. This doesn't mean that we wake up a 4am to pray every morning, or that we fast for 40 days a month, or that we christian-lingoify our conversation. That kind of thinking is box thinking. I've got a family box, a work box, a money box, and out of all the boxes, God's going to be the biggest. The trouble with box-thinking is that when our life grows in one area, as it should, time has to be taken from another.

Have you ever seen the movie Click? It's a film about a guy who lives by box-thinking. He has a family box and a work box. But because his work box is so large, his family box is tiny and it means his misses out on the best parts of his life.
So what does it mean to seek the Kingdom of God above else? It's not about time. It's about priority. Ask yourself this question: Is God number one in every area of my life? 'Above else' means that the decisions I make are based on my relationship with God. Simple. That's why it's so important to keep our relationship with God healthy and growing. Everything else in life will flow from that. If we are spiritually healthy then we will have health in every other sphere of life. Who wouldn't want that?

Great Blog Karl!

I totally agree. These last few weeks have been such a great time in Church- learning about getting back to the root of why we are here on this earth!

I like the 'box' imagery as well:) I like to see life like a starfish. God is the centre and all the branches of our lives are fed fro the heart and encouraged to grow! And if one leg gets cut off or we decide to leave behind a part of lives behind... it leaves room for another leg to grow!

God should be the centre of who we are... mainly because he's awesome:)

Hey Tinpot - this is my perception of things:

  1. Get a grip of the absolute truth that your life, you and everything around you is NOT about you - IT'S ABOUT GOD!                                            ( 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment. ' MATT:22 37-38 NIV)
  2. Once you take hold of this concept then you begin to realise (and desire) that you need to look away from yourself towards others and encourage, promote and empower those around you.                                                                                                                                                      ('And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' MATT22 39-40 NIV)
  3. Now that the light has switched on, you have to practice these concepts and stay focussed on them by prayer, reading the Bible & gaining knowledge of the truth and wisdom it contains and stay in close contact with people that will influence you in this respect because they too have realised that God is the only thing that is constant and most important in their (and others) lives.
