Everything But the Kitchen Sink

This cliché was used a lot when our children were young and we were going off on our self-catering holidays. Having small children meant taking everything ‘but the kitchen sink’ on our expedition to Wales, Yorkshire or Devon. Nowadays I realise that we were never going to be far away from a shop and that anything that had been forgotten could easily have been bought, and saved the squash of people and ‘things’ in the car!!  » read more...

Grace Leadership

Anyone who has been involved in leadership for any length of time will fully understand the constant demands and daily pressures that accompany the responsibility of leadership. There are frequent challenges that leaders face and that is why every leader ought to lead out of the priority of what is important and not necessarily what is urgent. With this in mind there are several qualities and traits that leaders need in their personal arsenal to stand out from the crowd and one in particular that I would like to bring to your attention.

Tripoli - Lybia / 2011

After taking key roads leading into the Eastern Side of Tripoli, a group of just under five hundred rebel drove toward one of the government controlled headquarters. These rebels were made up of doctors, teachers, students, the unemployed and civil servants. They weren’t professionally trained soldiers or have a salary from the state as an army official. They had no heavy artillery, only bits they had stolen during battle. They were ill-equipped and totally outmatched.

Lessons for Leaders

I am sure you will agree with me that leadership is for a lifetime not just for a season. Those who are called by God to lead whether that be a business, charitable enterprise, a church, a ministry or a team then there are going to be many challenges along the way.

I truly believe that the greatest challenge to progress and fruitfulness lie within us, in other words our external world is to a large degree a direct result of what our internal world looks like. As a leader if you are prepared to confront and embrace your internal challenges & issues that you face daily then you will create success and achieve that which God has placed in your heart.

There are many arenas that we can search for advice but I want to point you in the direction of Scripture to provide some help and support when the going gets tough.  » read more...

Iron

I love the teaching our Senior Leader, Dave Belfield, is bringing to us! Recently he’s been talking about the power of relationships. So much so that they can limit your revelation and vision or excel it. It got me thinking about recognising what a good friendship looks like.

PROVERBS 27:17
AS IRON SHARPENS IRON, SO A FRIEND SHARPENS A FRIEND.

Any friendship you have should sharpen you; sharpen your attitude, thought processes, vision and spirit. Anyone who doesn’t is just holding you back, to be blunt! Keeping a sharp edge helps win the battle.

A Family Affair

I am the eldest girl of four sisters. These days, that kind of statistic is becoming rarer in our Western culture than ever before, with a large majority of people sticking to the token 2.4 children.

Contributing Joy

As an associate to the senior leader for many years at Today’s Community Church, I have learned some invaluable lessons that I would like to pass on.

This verse I keep in close proximity to my heart and has admirably served me well over the years:

Hebrews 13:17 NIV
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Here’s a worthwhile question to ask:
